Ebb & Flow

A Poem

Published by Z Publishing House

Ebb and Flow, two fine ladies I love so...

I met them unexpectedly when I was just a girl, you know.

            Ebb.

            Now, she’s the shy one—

            An introvert some say,

Since by the time one goes to her,

            She retreats the other way.

Don’t take it personal, I love you,

I just don’t have the time to stay.

You may follow if you want,

            But, I don’t stop — That’s not my way.

            Flow.

            Well, she’s the pushy one,

            Real bossy, quite astute.

            She floods with inspiration,

At times, so fast, I can’t compute.

Girl, you better catch it up!

            I’ll outpace your slow behind!

What in the heck are you waiting for?

            Let’s go, you’re wasting time!

Now, I could take an attitude,

            Or stay on the defense,

But they both are true and caring friends

So, it wouldn’t make much sense.

Ebb tells me to pull back at times,

So, I slow down and check my plan.

Flow gives me a thwack on the back of the head

And drags me forward by the hand.

Over the years, we’ve grown quite close,

            Their lessons still I learn.

Girl, if you don’t plan and step up in line,

You’re going to miss your turn!

Ebb and Flow, two fine ladies I love so...

I met them unexpectedly when I was just a girl, you know.
